Take a woman whose fetus has anencephaly — no brain, only a brainstem keeping its heart beating. It will never think, feel, or survive birth. Under an abortion ban, she's forced to carry that pregnancy to term, go through labor, and hold a baby that dies in her arms. If banning abortion is about protecting life, that law protects nothing except suffering. And if the reasoning is "every pregnancy must be carried out," then we'd also have to force a rape victim to carry her attacker's child, and let ectopic pregnancies rupture. Absolute bans don't save lives; they just make tragedies crueler.

Over 95% of abortions aren’t related to sexual assault victims or medical issues, rather the mother just doesn’t want to keep her child. Why should we force the end to a life because of the selfish stupid mistakes the mother made. The baby isn’t a consequence in this case, or in the case of sexual assault. It has moral value with or without a brain stem and has the right to live. The case you brought up is irrelevant because an abortion wouldn’t cure the mothers pain, rather only provide a “shortcut” to the end.

The real question isn't whether a fetus is alive — it's whether one person can be forced to loan their body to keep another person alive. Nonyaabc says the right to live applies "no matter where in the pregnancy." If that's true, then a fertilized egg has the same rights as a newborn — which means banning abortion also means banning IVF, where we create and discard embryos by the thousands. It means treating miscarriage as a potential crime scene. If the blastocyst's right to life is absolute, then every fertility clinic becomes a death camp. That logic doesn't protect life — it just makes medicine impossible and turns women into incubators.

Miscarriage is the biological discarding of the fetus when either the mother can’t provide anymore or the fetus shuts down. That is completely separate from intentionally killing a child. Looking from a biological point strictly without morals or legality the right to live overpowers the right to bodily autonomy. For example: the fetus is biologically alive from conception, the only job it has is to keep growing, through persistent survival. That is the biological definition for the fetuses life. On the contrary the biological definition for bodily autonomy is the bodies ability to react and delay certain things in order for the main goal to prevent death. Therefore the only justified “abortions” are either A. A miscarriage because that is the biological not preventable death of the fetus, where the body responds protecting its autonomy. And B. The fetus physically is going to kill the mother during birth which happens less than 1% of the time and can rarely be predicted before the newborns conception. If you can’t morally justify the right to live for a child then you can’t deny the biological aspect, bodily autonomy is overided by the persistence of life. In law if a women is raped her predator will be convicted, if she is murdered the predator could receive the death penalty. The law values harsher punishments for murder than rape, meaning that it values life over bodily autonomy because rape certainly violates bodily autonomy.

Take Savita Halappanavar. She died of sepsis in Ireland after being denied an abortion during a miscarriage — her fetus couldn't survive, but the law wouldn't let doctors intervene. That's what "every life counts" looks like in practice: a woman in agony, bleeding out, while the state says the fetus's "right to life" overrides hers.
And if Nonyaabc's really saying a fetus has moral value with or without a brainstem, then the same logic makes IVF murder, since clinics discard embryos by the thousands. If that's a crime, we're not protecting life. We're just punishing women for the crime of being pregnant.

When did I say being pregnant was a crime, it’s a biological gift. In the case of IVF those embryos aren’t in the “hosts” or the mothers womb so they can’t naturally grow or thrive, therefore they are being denied the “persistence of life” but they aren’t necessarily being killed. Also in the case of them being discarded a lot of the time it is due to the viability of it not having a probable chance of life. Or even the family who donated them deciding they don’t want another member of the family. So even if they aren’t in the mothers womb they are still being killed, is it as wrong as injecting a liquid into a growing fetuses heart and suffocating it? Not inherently. Again the IVF embryo are usually frozen and not growing. Can you seriously justify life based on its developmental state? Humans are born all the time with developmental deficits and delays, but we don’t discard their lives.

If that were true, then you'd be legally required to donate a kidney to a dying stranger. Their life persists, only you can save them, yet nobody thinks the state can force that. Bodily autonomy means the government can't conscript your body, period. The murder-versus-rape punishment point doesn't change it either; that's about punishing crimes, not about forcing someone to sustain another life. An abortion ban does exactly what we'd never allow for organ donation: it treats a woman's body as public property. And if you can't justify forcing a kidney, you can't justify forcing a pregnancy.

The fundamental difference you are clearly missing is the fetus is 50% the mother, it’s not “public property”. You just ignored the complete biological definitions and justifications, instead you turn to legality which is completely subjective to societal opinions. Was slavery correct? The law allowed it at one point. You can’t justify why ending a life using a mechanically developed surgery that the human body wasn’t made for is acceptable using strictly biology. As for the kidney argument, no I can’t find a stranger to give me a kidney, and yet I could get on a waitlist for a transplant. But the difference again is the mother isn’t a stranger, if I was going to die without a kidney and I could get one from my mother she would be MORALLY inclined to give me one, not forced. But the difference is during a pregnancy majority of the time the mother body isn’t going to die from having the child, so the bodily autonomy argument doesn’t hold up. The fetus deserves rights too, where is its bodily autonomy rights? It’s hypocritical to say one deserves it but not the other.

Take any IVF clinic out there: they create embryos, freeze them, and routinely discard the ones that don't work out. If Nonyaabc's right that a fetus has moral value with or without a brainstem, then those clinics are committing mass homicide. But no one seriously believes that—because we all know an embryo in a dish isn't a baby. And the "developmental deficits" comparison doesn't hold: those born humans live in the world, not inside someone else's body. You still can't force a woman to donate her womb any more than you can force a person to give a kidney. That's the line bans never cross.
