I don't see why the universe needs a god behind it. It seems like people have always used gods to explain whatever they didn't understand, and then science fills in later. That's basically my gut feeling.
Think of a round pebble on a beach: nobody assumes a pebble maker. A pen is clearly built, sure, but the universe seems more like the pebble than the pen. You make a fair point, honestly I can't argue it well, but my gut still says no god needed.
Calling the universe a pen sort of assumes the thing you're trying to prove, that it was made by someone. Fair point on the pen, honestly, I can't argue back well. But lots of things just exist with nobody behind them, so my gut still says no.
