Imagine a fan who bets on a game legally at the stadium, sees a responsible gambling PSA between innings, and has a helpline number on the back of his ticket. Now imagine the same fan, after a ban, pulling out his phone and using an unregulated offshore app instead. Which scenario is safer for him? That's the nash equilibrium problem with this ban. You don't eliminate the betting—you just move it somewhere with zero oversight. Stadiums are actually the most controlled environment we have. Ads there come with licensing, age verification, and spending limits built into the venue's infrastructure. Ban them, and you create a prisoner's dilemma where the leagues lose ad revenue but the gambling still happens, just twenty miles away in a parking lot through a shady app. I agree addiction is a real problem, but banning ads at venues doesn't solve it. It just pushes the game into a darker room where nobody can see the cards.
