Roughly 1.9 billion Muslims live in dozens of countries, and the biggest populations are in Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Nigeria, not the Middle East. That matters because the other side treats a vast, internally diverse tradition as one monolith, then judges it by the worst regimes and loudest extremists. Yes, some states and movements invoke Islam to justify awful things, and that deserves criticism. But the proposition isn't "some interpretations are harmful"; it's "the religion itself is immoral and billions shouldn't practice it." That's a sweeping claim that collapses when you look at how Muslims actually debate justice, charity and pluralism from within their faith.
