If that were true, then we’re basically saying it’s fine to excavate someone’s private notes just because they were a genius. That’s not historical duty—that’s grave robbing with a degree. It is worth unearthing because if we do there is no harm in not finding anything useful. But if we do we might find things useful. If we don't there is a likelihood we might lose some findings that were lost due to ignorance of people. The reason alan turing would be known for was because of the war. So if there wasn't like a life threatning emergency, people would have never known how bright his discoveries could have been then either.

If that were true—that we have a duty to unearth every scrap of Turing’s work—then we should probably dig up every failed experiment from every scientist in history. But we don’t, because most of it isn’t useful. It’s just noise. Look, sethumsiri says there’s no harm in looking. But there is harm. We’re talking about a man whose private life was weaponized against him by the state. Unearthing his lost works without his say-so feels like we’re still treating him as property of the government, not a person. The war stuff got declassified because it had clear historical value. But that is the thing. It shows that we actually do care about him and that in the modern world we dont have to be aggresive with his thoughts like they did in the past. It is like a moment to listen to what he has been struggling through, for somebody to listen to his thoughts. The thing the government didnt let happen in the past. And also we are not just talking about any random scientist, this is a unique scientist who had unfathomable theories of intellect and the connection between nature and technology. And you're wrong, I believe most people would definitely like to unearth Einstein or Newton. Because they let their imagination flow in their free time. Stuff they couldnt prove then but we could now could be found. Because these are bright minds whose thinking patterns we can't categorize into normal people.
