As everyone knows people have free will and this free will give them premise to decide about themselves. When we can decide about ourselves we can decide of all part of our body even smallest like DNA. Someone can said that would divide humans to poor normal people and rich superhumans. However it don't really change situation which is now, we have plastic operation, anti aging protocols and many mory things which would get cheaper when genetic engineering become more developed gap would still persistent but not deeper than it is.

Nontherapeutic enhancement isn't just a private choice. It's a global ecological lever. If enhancement becomes a market, it fuels a positional arms race. Richer nations and individuals consume more energy, materials, and medical resources to gain advantages, while the planet already overshoots. Healthcare emits around 4 to 5 percent of global greenhouse gases, and elective enhancements would add demand without treating disease. And a global ban is the only fair way to stop a two tier species split, because patchwork rules just offshore the labs. We can't claim sustainability while engineering luxury upgrades. Ban it.

It is probably huge problem however in same situation why should probably ban plastic surgeries than prohibit teeth whitening than prohibit combs. We should take care of ecology however not by banning things but doing them more ecological. Probably you sometimes brush your hair or wear better shoes so why not whitten your teeth or change your genes to produce more collagen? Human race wouldn't split in this scenario, due to rigidity of our genes. We can't change small things as I said collagen, testosteron maybe age healthier but major changes would lead to catastrophes so human would still be humans not less than ever. Saying that we would split human to different race is like saying we turned our grandpa to cyborg by giving here leg prosthesis.

Free will is real, but I'd say it doesn't cover the atmosphere. The practical consequence of allowing non-therapeutic enhancement is a luxury arms race: more energy, rare earths, and medical capacity diverted to upgrades while health care already emits 4 to 5 percent of global greenhouse gases. Plastic surgery is a weak comparison, it doesn't rewrite heredity or create permanent demand chains. And yes, inequality exists now, but that's not a reason to bolt a globally unregulated genetic market on top. A ban is the only scalable brake. Patchwork rules just move labs offshore.

First of all you are atacking straw man I am not saying about premising all genetic changes and don't regulate it, I m saying why shouldn't ban all non-theraputic genrtical changes. Always advancements leads to highter demand on earth but that not problem of only medicine but all our advancements why should prioritize ecology not by stopping advancement but making everything more recyclable. Have you heard that viruses actually also can integrate with DNA? And small mutations actually lead to evolution. Changes in DNA are all around us however these changes would not be random but very carefully researched for decades until we don't get them safe that will by probably banned as same with everything. But once we get saffetines what would hold us? Free will is not circumnstanccial.
