I think college athletes already get a lot through scholarships and exposure, and paying them a direct cut starts turning colleges into pro leagues. The other side might have a fair point about fairness, but my gut says it gets messy fast, especially for sports that don’t make money.

I wouldn't necessarily call D1 college athletes messy and fast. They work hard and take time out of their week just like any pro player, on top of homework and the studying+the practices and the hard work. If they are good enough to play a D1 sport, they should be paid at least an amount of money.

I get that fairness matters, and my opponent may have a fair point that athletes bring in money. But my gut still says a direct cut turns college sports into something more like pro leagues, and I’m not really sure how to argue past that.

The direct cut isn't Pro-level payments. There should be a limit to how much a player makes.
