Think of a voter who cares about both fiscal responsibility and environmental protection. That person stands in the voting booth and has to pick a team that mostly ignores half of what they believe. That's the whole problem. Framing everything as Democrats versus Republicans forces us to sort ourselves into tribes, and then every policy becomes a team signal instead of a practical solution. Compromise gets punished as weakness. If you actually want good governance, you should be against this binary setup, because it guarantees that whatever one side proposes, the other will oppose simply out of spite.

So someone says Republicans hate change, and sure, plenty of them do oppose good ideas just because a Democrat proposed them. But that cuts both ways, doesn't it? Democrats dig in just as hard on their own sacred cows. The real problem isn't which tribe is worse, it's that the whole Democrats versus Republicans setup makes us defend a team instead of evaluating policies on their merits. A voter who cares about climate and balanced budgets gets stuck choosing a package deal. You're not voting for good ideas, you're voting for a brand. That's why I'm against this whole framing.

You keep arguing that Democrats are better than Republicans, and maybe that's true on some issues. But that's not actually defending the Democrats versus Republicans framing itself. You're just picking a side in the game, and that's exactly the trap. Even if Democrats propose better healthcare today, the binary structure means they also inherit every bad incentive that comes with permanent team loyalty. They don't have to earn your vote on each issue; they just have to be the non-Republican choice. That's a low bar that breeds complacency. Real governance should judge each policy on its own merits, not on which jersey the person proposing it wears.
