You paint AI music as an environmental disaster, but the numbers don't support that conclusion. Training a large AI model is a one-time process, not something repeated for every single song. Once a model exists, generating a song requires only a fraction of that energy. If we banned AI music because of the electricity it uses, we'd also have to question video streaming, gaming, cloud storage, and even the recording studios that run powerful equipment around the clock. The issue isn't AI music, it's how we generate electricity.
They also claim AI music creates "waste" because there will be more songs online. But music platforms already host tens of millions of tracks, most of which receive very few streams. Human musicians upload thousands of songs every day too. Simply adding more content doesn't suddenly create an environmental crisis. Platforms already manage storage efficiently, and the energy used to store digital files is tiny compared to many other online services.
Finally, saying AI drowns out human artists is a separate issue from sustainability. Recommendation algorithms determine what people hear, not whether a song was made by AI or a human. If platforms want to ensure fair visibility, they can improve discovery systems or label AI-generated music. Banning an entire technology because it might increase uploads is like banning smartphones because too many people take photos.
The question isn't whether AI uses energy. Every modern technology does. The question is whether we should deny people a creative tool because it consumes electricity while ignoring far larger sources of emissions. Innovation and sustainability can exist together, and AI music should be judged by how responsibly it's used, not by exaggerated fears about its carbon footprint.
