I get that owning stocks is a normal personal freedom, and I don't think lawmakers should be banned from having savings. Still, it just feels off that someone voting on laws could also profit from picking individual stocks. I can't fully explain why, but the appearance alone seems bad.

To me this is less about banning savings and more about whether voters can trust the process. My opponent may have a fair point about freedom, and I am not sure how to argue that, but someone with inside knowledge picking stocks just looks like a conflict. I can't shake that.
