If you claim that your God is real while those gods were myths, then you need to provide evidence that distinguishes your God from the countless deities that humans have already believed in and abandoned.

And look at where the burden actually sits. To rule God out, you'd have to survey everything that exists. Nobody has done that, and nobody can. So the honest position isn't "God does not exist," it's "I don't know." I'll take the claim that survives stress over the one that breaks on first contact.

You also keep treating the survival of theism as evidence for God, when a belief system surviving social and scientific change only shows that people can preserve and adapt a belief; Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and countless other religions have survived too, despite making incompatible supernatural claims. And your “one genuine encounter” argument proves only that my conclusion could be wrong, not that your conclusion is supported. If all you can establish is “God might exist and atheism might someday be overturned,” then you have established possibility, not existence. So the real question remains: what evidence do you have that demonstrates that a God actually exists rather than merely showing that I cannot achieve absolute certainty that one doesn't?

Fair point: sincerity doesn't prove anything. But Jshwtf's Zeus parallel is a category mistake. Zeus is a being inside the world, one more agent to find or not find. The God I'm defending is the reason there's a world at all. Debunking particular gods doesn't touch that, any more than a false map disproves all geography. And here's the fragility. The claim that God does not exist stays a universal negative. It breaks on a single counterexample. Mine survives unknowns.

You’re not actually answering the Zeus comparison; you’re redefining God into a deeper kind of claim. Saying God is “the reason there is a world” does not establish that such a being exists, and it certainly doesn't establish that your particular God is that being. You also can't turn every unknown into evidence for God by saying your hypothesis “survives” it. If God is compatible with literally any possible observation, then that flexibility shows your claim has not been independently confirmed, not that it is true. And saying my position could be overturned by one genuine discovery only establishes that atheism is fallible; it doesn't provide a single piece of evidence that God actually exists. So stop treating “you haven't ruled God out” as evidence that God is there. The burden remains on the person claiming that this extraordinary entity exists.
