A nine-seat exposure gap only matters if Democrats can actually win those seats. Their path requires a net four, and their real targets are Maine, North Carolina, and a couple of long shots, while they simultaneously defend Georgia, Michigan, New Hampshire, and Minnesota. Nonpartisan raters place only a handful of races in tossup territory, so Democrats must essentially run the table. I grant the midterm pattern, but an average isn't arithmetic. Sweeping nearly every competitive seat is a hope, not a forecast.
