A trans man’s identity is valid because being a man is not determined solely by the sex someone was assigned at birth. A trans man is someone who identifies and lives as a man, and that identity deserves the same recognition and respect afforded to cisgender men. Disagreement about the nature or definition of gender does not make a trans person’s identity inherently illegitimate.
Look, I agree everyone deserves kindness and respect. But my gut says if someone was born a woman, they're still a woman, even if they say they're a man. I don't really know how to argue it beyond that feeling.
But doesn't "man" usually mean adult male? I get your point about identity and respect, and maybe I can't really argue it. Still, my gut just says if someone was born female, they're a woman. I don't know how else to put it.
I get why you'd ask, and you deserve respect. Honestly, I can't point to anything about you personally. I'm just going by the body someone is born with, which for me is what woman means. That's a fair question and I don't have a better answer.
I appreciate you admitting that, and I really do mean it when I say you deserve respect. But to me, being born female is kind of the whole thing that makes someone a woman. Maybe that's too simple, but it's all I've got.
I guess I'm just defining woman by the body someone is born with, not by identity. So to me a trans man is still a woman in that basic sense. I know your question was fair, and I don't have a clever comeback.
