College athletes already get a free education, which is worth a ton. The scholarship is the payment. If we start handing out cash, it takes away from what college is really about, learning, and turns it into a pure business deal.
I get that they put in serious time and effort, and you make a fair point there. But they're already getting a free education, which is worth so much. Paying cash on top of that just feels like it turns college into a business instead of a place to learn.
Isn't a full-ride scholarship already a huge payment? I know you're frustrated with my answer, but adding cash just makes it a business. You make a fair point about their effort, but my gut still says that changes what college should be.
