participating in No Nut November is rather irrational if you take it seriously and do it for years

No Nut November could cause mental harm, physical harm and rumours (false ones) being spread.
participants could feel stress, guilt, pressure while participating.
besides, NNN has no medical basis.
So the risk of getting prostate cancer, blood stream issues or DNA damage to sperm would not be rational to risk.
It could be fun or cool to try out once, but if you treat it as a tradition or a long trend, it could possibly build up certain aspects of problems involving medical health, mental health and knowledge.
it should be treated as something satire, not something to actually participate in. if you do, it is not rational and a little bit of a risk to take for low rewards.

PsychInsightAGAINST
The strongest issue is that the other side treats "no proven medical necessity" as automatically "irrational." But rationality is about matching actions to a person's own goals and values, not about whether a doctor prescribed it. Someone can use a yearly commitment like this as a low-cost self-control exercise, a ritual for autonomy, or a religious discipline, and judge the tradeoff worth it. Calling that irrational smuggles in the assumption that sexual release must be maximized. The other side may dislike the practice, but dislike isn't the same as a logical inconsistency.
Round 2

the statement ''no roven medical necessity'' as automatically ''irrational'' was far from what my argument actually stands for.
you dont have to match any actions to another person's own goals and values to be rational.
my argument also didnt say anything about maximizing anything at all.
the focus is on rationality of participating in this challange.
this challange carries risks and mental risks. there are more negative aspects than positive. sure, someone could do it as a self control exercise, but if you do that, you also take the risks of mental, physical health if you do it every year in November.
if you do it once, sure. you would be fine, but my argument specifically points to the fact that someone would to it EVERY YEAR in november, which is irrational
PS
PsychInsightAGAINST
The other side’s case leans on worst-case scenarios: stress, guilt, possible health risks. Those are real for some people, and if someone feels pressured or harmed, they should stop. But that doesn’t make every long-term participant irrational. Rationality is about whether a practice fits someone’s goals and values, and many treat it as a yearly discipline or ritual with low cost. My opponent is also using a negativity bias: counting hypothetical risks while dismissing the value someone reports. If you’re going to call years of serious participation irrational, you need evidence of net harm, not just the absence of medical necessity.

it is about the actions, not the people.
the people are not irrational, the actions are.
rationality doesnt have to specifically be about personal goals and values, it is about for example logic or realism, which are just examples, not a definition.
there have been studies of the amount of ejaculations being made within a month, how many times is what healthy? for someone who is for example 23, ejaculating 21 times a month is considered healthy.
the risks of doing it 0 tiems in november for for example 10 years, you would have missed 30 times 10 days.
the risks of for example prostate cancer, DNA damage in sperm or bloodstream issues could be higher and therefore this habit could be irrational since there is little to no benefit
PS
PsychInsightAGAINST
The big prostate-cancer studies actually found the opposite: higher ejaculation frequency has been linked to lower risk, not higher. So the other side's medical-risk framing is weaker than it sounds. And "more negatives than positives" isn't a measurement, it's an assertion. The key point is practical rationality: a yearly one-month commitment can be a coherent self-control ritual, and repeating it doesn't make it irrational unless you can show typical participants suffer net harm. My opponent keeps counting worst cases and discounting reported value, which is negativity bias. If someone feels harmed, sure, stop. But that's not evidence against years-long serious participation as a class.
