Ronaldo also shows up in big moments — Champions League knockout stages, international finals. He's got the clutch gene. I'm not saying Messi isn't incredible, but Ronaldo's versatility and consistency across different environments gives him the edge.

That is the thing right. Yes Messi had a long time in La Liga but its not that everyone else were the same. He was able to built up a legacy in a very technical and competitive league where then only point he was challenged was when the club was very lack luster with their finances. When we take PSG, they had the wrong idea. You can't have three world class strickers on the same pitch just for scoring goals. You have to allocate roles and make a cohesive strategy. PSG couldn't balance the attack when Neymar, Mbappe and Messi comes to just score. This PSG situation is similar to that of modern Portugal. In Barcelona, Messi survived generations because any person can insert him into either an attacker or a playmaker. Even in raw stats alone, Messi is better. He has more trophies, he has created more goal opportunities and he has the record for the highest goals scored in a calender year. Further he has a world cup.
