I've got three reasons why the All-Star Game is clearly broken.
The defense is nonexistent. Players barely move, and there's no resistance at the rim. Last year's game had a final score of 211-186. That's not basketball, it's a layup line. Nobody's even trying.
The competitive spirit is gone. Players treat it like a vacation, not a game. LeBron himself has said guys just want to get through it healthy. When the best players admit they're not competing, the event has lost its purpose.
The fans know it. Ratings have slipped, and people are tuning out. If the product isn't entertaining or competitive, why should we care?
Sure, some people say "it's always been an exhibition." But there's a difference between fun and a total lack of effort. The 2001 game went to overtime. Players actually tried back then. We've lost that, and it needs fixing.
