Ladies and gentlemen,
I stand FOR the principle that society must have the ability to initiate impeachment proceedings against public officials.
Democracy does not mean citizens surrender their authority and responsibility after casting their votes. Elections grant political leaders the opportunity to govern, but that authority comes with an obligation to serve the public.
When serious misconduct, corruption, or abuse of public trust occurs, citizens should have a meaningful way to demand accountability.
My position does not advocate removing politicians based on popularity, political disagreements, or public anger. It advocates a structured process supported by credible evidence, independent legal evaluation, transparency, and due process.
My opponents may argue that citizen participation could destabilize government. However, government stability should not depend on protecting officials from accountability. A government that cannot tolerate legitimate scrutiny is not demonstrating strength; it is demonstrating institutional weakness.
I believe democracy must provide both the power to elect leaders and the means to hold them accountable.
Public authority comes from the people, and public accountability must never be separated from that authority.
