The other side gets wrong that VAR is just about getting calls right. For me, football's soul is the instant roar and the flow, and stopping everything to draw lines on a screen kinda kills that. I know that's not a deep argument, but it's my gut feeling.

No. VAR is used specifically to watch back possibly missed calls or terrible calls. Without VAR, there is no challenging the play. Which means some player could make a really dirty play and if there wasn't a call, he would get away with it.

Maybe the other side has a fair point about dirty play, and I'm not sure how to argue that away. But to me the issue is what football feels like watching: if every goal waits for a screen check, the joy gets drained out. That's my gut, even if it's not a strong case.
