The problem isn't the technology, it's the system. Streaming platforms already run on volume — artists earn fractions of a cent per stream, and algorithms reward quantity over quality. Now imagine flooding that system with AI tracks that cost nothing to produce. You don't get more music, you get a feedback loop where human artists get buried under an endless avalanche of algorithm-optimized sound-alikes. It's a race to the bottom.
And trace the chain further. Those AI models are trained on real musicians' work, so platforms end up competing with the very people they're supposed to be paying. Labels will push AI content because it's cheaper, engagement metrics will reward it, and suddenly your discovery feed is full of songs that sound vaguely like everything else. The unintended consequence is that human creativity becomes a loss leader.
I get the appeal, honestly. But letting this in without guardrails destroys the ecosystem before we even figure out what we're doing. We need to slow down and think about the long game here.
