Imagine a senator buys stock in a solar company because they think green energy is the future, not because of any secret info. Banning all individual trades would stop them from making that simple, personal choice. That feels like way too broad a rule for a few bad actors.

You make a fair point that there's a lot of money swirling around politics. Still, I just think a total ban punishes everyone for a few bad actors. Most officials probably aren't acting on secret tips, so taking away all their choices feels like overkill.

But why would u what to overkill on it and if thay don’t get enough money no one will what to work for the government if thay don’t get enough money so that’s another reason and we need government to keep us safe

The other side seems to think every official is trading on secret info, but that’s already illegal and can be investigated case by case. A total ban just treats everyone like a crook. I still feel that’s too heavy-handed for a problem that doesn’t affect most of them.
