If you hand everyone a monthly check, you haven't fixed the underlying issue: the cost of housing, healthcare, and food. Landlords and corporations will just absorb that money through higher prices. You'd end up with the same struggling families and a massive tax bill, or inflation, or both. The other side will say it reduces poverty, but it doesn't if the system just prices them out again. You have to fix the costs first.
