Picture a new band playing to an empty room, then posting one song free and a few strangers actually show up next time. Yeah, gear and studio costs are real, that's fair, and I can't really argue that. I just think free is how strangers become fans first.

I feel like if you traffic AI music then it's better to talk about no costs, there's no longer CD's in this day and age so say good bye to such costs but Spotify will pay cents either way for the little streams you get. Having said that it is better to rather pay from your own equity costs for marketing, have unique taste in music production and allow the use of radio's plus small shows

The real question is how a total stranger ever hears a band once. Paying for marketing or radio might work, fair enough, I can't argue that. But a free song is the first handshake, and without it nobody has a reason to show up.

U wouldn't understand what the word "free" does, it is out of desperation unless you actually are rather have 80% off discount offers to let's say 50 audiences to your 200 seat show. That's smart enough as you will not expect alot of people and they will see the value in the first 50 rather than become the last one paying original price. Become a marketing genius, quality music only a few could ever listen to... What is free to you?
